What is Peer Navigation?

Peer involvement in many healthcare settings creates an opportunity for our PLHIV and LGBTIQ communities to see how others navigate similar circumstances. The aim in doing this is to increase social connections that allow PLHIV to discuss, share and support each other in pursuing self-satisfaction and empowerment.

SAMESH’s Poz Peer Navigation offers assistance to newly diagnosed people in various ways, including:

  • Providing advice in relation to appropriate care and support pathways
  • Creating opportunities for clients to network with other peers either one-to-one or in peer groups
  • Direct support regarding medical visits
  • Provide clients with current care information
  • Advocating for clients in healthcare settings

Online and in-person group networking sessions also can provide the chance to discuss emerging treatment options, complimentary care services, NDIS, queer history, and more.

The SAMESH Peer navigation project embraces the Australian HIV Peer Standards developed by the National Association of People Living with HIV Australia (NAPWHA).

We encourage people living with HIV to become meaningfully involved with community-based prevention and care programs in South Australia. We value the stories and experiences of South Australis living with HIV and the ongoing evolution in how they shape our community, our people, and services available.

All people living with HIV in South Australia are welcome to talk with Craig regardless of gender, cultural background, or perceived needs.
