Stepping Out is our in-person workshop for gay men and other men who have sex with men (MSM) aged 18-30. This workshop provides opportunities to discuss and learn about sexual health and other issues related to their health and wellbeing in a safe and non-judgemental space.
The next workshop series is starting on 27 April 2024, and will run for five weeks to 25 May 2024.
Running over several weeks, each session will focus on a particular subject so participants can learn new information or reaffirm existing knowledge. There will be a range of guest speakers providing expert insights and lived experience related to sexual health and answering any participant questions. Participants are asked to attend all sessions.
A brief rundown of each week’s topics is as follows:
Week 1 – Introduction
The first week will allow participants to introduce themselves, meet the peer facilitators and discuss common issues such as values, attitudes, and communication.
Week 2 – Coming Out, the Community, Finding your Tribe(s)
Participants will explore what it means to come out and navigate our various LGBTIQ+ communities.
Week 3 – Sexual Health & HIV
Learn about the importance of sexual health testing, HIV and other STIs.
Week 4 – Sex, Pleasure & Consent
Find out this week about safe sex practices, consent and why that’s sexy!
Week 5 – Final Week
Have a re-cap of the workshop, fill in the gaps, and what’s next after the workshop.
Those who participate in the Stepping Out workshop can also choose to volunteer as Peer Facilitators for future workshops. This opportunity offers individuals a chance to learn valuable skills around public speaking, leadership, group management, and acting as a mentor to others.
