Better Together in Adelaide

On 18-19 June, a rainbow descended on the Adelaide Convention Centre for the 4th National Better Together Conference. Better Together focuses on all things LGBTIQ+. It allows LGBTIQ+ people to hear from advocates and participate in a discussion on topics affecting our communities.

A wide range of topics were included over the two days, from reporting on academic studies, sex worker rights, the future of advocacy and the needs of LGBTIQ+ people across various age and cultural groups.

SAMESH staff presented data from last year’s Adelaide Gay Community Period Survey and the impact of COVID-19 on reaching community members. This included a pre-recorded video from key researchers Professor Martin Holt and Dr Tim Broady, who could not make it across from NSW. Some interesting questions were raised around sexual health testing in relation to rising PrEP use and the impacts of COVID-19.

Over two dozen SAMESH volunteers provided over 120 volunteering hours to ensure the two-day event ran smoothly and Better Together 2021 was a success, a huge thank you to everyone who was involved!
