HIV-positive people and COVID-19 Vaccine Eligibility

The rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine in South Australia started in February and Phase 1b of the rollout commenced on March 22, 2021. We appreciate that many people in our community may be wondering when they can be vaccinated and how to coordinate this when they become eligible.

Are you eligible?

If you are living with HIV you qualify to receive the vaccine as part of Phase 1b. This is because people living with primary or acquired immunodeficiencies are listed as a priority population.

Other health conditions and priority groups are also included in Phase 1b. To check your eligibility visit: Vaccines Eligibility Checker (healthdirect.gov.au)

Where to get vaccinated

Only certain locations have been selected as vaccination sites, so it’s important to note that your usual GP or medical service may not be able to administer the vaccination.

To find where your nearest vaccine site is, use the Vaccine Eligibility Checker, answer the questions regarding your health. If you are eligible, you will be asked to provide your postcode which will then display vaccination clinics near you. You will then need to call the site to arrange an appointment.

Please provide this COVID-19 vaccination – Eligibility declaration form when attending your vaccination appointment.

Using this form means you will not have to disclose your HIV status and ensure an easier vaccination process.
